How to set the EasyAs Accounting Software to enable one click data backups. Restoring Your Accounting Data

Its not possible to use the easyas restore facility if you are using DropBox, if you need to restore your data files after a data corruption then you need to do this manually

It is important to remember that DropBox looks at your files and as it does this it also looks at the dates of all the files to discover if a change has occurred. The problem with attempting a standard restore is that copying a previous older backup set into the dropbox area will not prompt dropbox to update the other dropbox folders on the other computers if they already have newer data files in them.. In fact the opposite can occur where DropBox will look at the older files (the ones you are attempting to restore) and simply override them with the newer corrupted files on the other pc or from within dropbox itself.

I suggest you view the video which talks about fixing a corruption with dropbox. This video will take you through deleting of the files from all the dropbox folders..

Once you have deleted all corrupted data files from all the DropBox Locations you can then restore you good set of data files to one of the locations and let DropBox update the rest.

What happens after a Software Update

From time to time you may receive the benefits of a software update, thus being able to enjoy new features that have been added to the software under your purchase agreement. .

Always, Always, Always do a data backup before any update..  Just in case, don’t get caught out.

Standard Software Installation

Be aware that the EasyAs Software is created in such a way so as to always look for its main data files in a specific location after the software is installed. This allows for both ease of use and to enable the software to maintain data integrity. This is something that has been occurring all the time with or without your knowledge, and I guess for the most part your only concern was if the software worked or not.

At EasyAs when we create software updates we always place the main data files in the standard installation directory and re-link the main program file to that location, this ensures that when you apply and install any new updates it will work all the time every time the moment you attempt to run the software after a new update….This is perfect as this is exactly what you want to happen..

However as part of the process of using DropBox with EasyAs you end up moving the data files to a new location on your pc, which means that the new update has no idea where the files are, thus the program gets extremely upset.  To correct this issue it means that you will also be required to Re-Link the Data Files to the EasyAs Software after you have installed the update.

Problem with DropBox and Updates

Because all new updates expect that your data files are always going to be found in the standard installation location you will discover that when you run the EasyAs Software for the first time after you apply an update it will create an error because it will not be able to locate your data files… This is because you previously moved your data files to the dropbox location on your Pc. Thus after applying any new update you will discover that the easyas software is not going to work.

How to Resolve This:

To overcome this problem it only requires that you perform the action of Re-Linking your Data Files to the new update. The action of re-linking your data files is going to be similar to what you originally did at Step 3. If you are unsure what to do then you should review the video at Step 3 to regain an overview.

Important – Also be aware:

When we issue updates you will need to apply the new update to ALL the Pc’s that you are using as part of your DropBox network (all the pc’s which you have linked through Dropbox that share the easyas data files).

So for example if you have 2 pcs running the easyas software, a main pc and a laptop, and you link both of these through DropBox then it will be necessary for you to download and apply the new update to both the main pc and the laptop. This also means that you will also need to re-link the data files on both the main pc and the laptop.

This all seems very logical but its easy to overlook when an update is issued as you soon discover that the software does not work, and because of the importance of your accounting data it is very possible that worry and confusion can easily and quickly settle in… The above information should hopefully help you overcome update worry and confusion.
