Square Point of Sale
What is Square
Square is bringing the future of business into the present with its revolutionary approach to payment processing. Gone are the days of requiring to by monthly fees to banks for the privilege of using there credit card tools and toys.
At EasyAs we dont like to promote other services for the sake of it. Over the years we have had to change our online merchant a couple of times as they failed to live up to our expectations, and this is true of mobile credit card services.
Those whom know us also know that the creators of EasyAs all came from and many still are involved in their own small businesses. We have all experienced the pain of taking credit card payments, having to pay outrageous fees to banks just to use their service on top of the percentage they charge us per transaction. But like many there was nothing that anyone could do as there was no other choice.
Square offers a one time purchase of their device (less than $100), no monthly fees – so if you dont use the device you are not charged just for having an account open with them, and they have very acceptable charges in the range of percentages per transaction (so much so that my bank still cannot match them)
This is sort of the same reason EasyAs was born, there was nothing else in the marketplace at that time that provided a realistic approach to accounting. The market place at that time seemed all tied in with large accounting firms delving out cumbersome software primarily designed for accountants and then also being tossed about as small business software.
Why Square and not other Similar Services
To be honest we cannot comment on some of the other services out there. There may be some that are equal to Square, but we do know that there are many that are not up to par. The founders of EasyAs (those that are still involved in their own businesses) have all used many different services over recent years.
I for one jumped in with the mobile device paypal have been promoting, but ended up getting burnt. Not only did I find it a cumbersome facility to use, I ended up with a device that was flaky at best. Then of course any income that went through a transaction went into my paypal account, which then had to be transferred into my business account (I’m not sure if that has now changed, but that was a major headache).
Square has come along and has exceeded all expectations, in fact square has now become so successful in the marketplace that the last two tradespeople that attended my home both also used square. Two different tradesmen a plumber and an electrician were both using square as their payment processor. Being familiar with square I asked why they also used it, and both said almost the same thing I said “Its so bloody easy to use”, “and the money is in my account usually some time the next day”.. It doesn’t get any better than that.
Not all countries use Square
EasyAs is a program that is sold all over the globe, so it was a hard decision to place a tool on our website that is not available to all countries – why would we do that.
We decided to link to and promote square even though not all users will be able to utilize squares services, we decided to do this as like many businesses we all have core demographics in our sales. EasyAs was originally marketed to 4 or 5 core countries and whilst the software has now grown to being used in over 30 countries around the globe we have found that our core countries still hold about 50 percent of sales.
We do know that square has been developing its services to move into other markets, and seeing how successful their product is, we expect that as they move into other markets they will develop greater and greater followings. So if your in a region or country that is not yet being marketed to by square, we suggest to keep an eye out because figure it will eventually happen (they are that good).
Using Square with EasyAs
Square is a separate service and as such there is no integration with the EasyAs Software. So how are individuals using this facility and its method of reporting when it come to using the EasyAs Accounting Software.
My partner uses square in her business and also naturally uses easyas for her main accounting and bookkeeping. How she uses Square and EasyAs is not unlike how others are using this product and other products – because as we know there are others in the marketplace, I support square as I have seen fantastic results with their service.
So lets have a look at how my partner uses square and easyas. She has a mobile eyelash business, whereby she does a lot of weddings and formals. At the end of the client visit she pulls out her mobile phone and her square device and if the client is paying by credit card she simply has them tap the card, enter their pin and that’s it. If the client wants a receipt she can do that on her phone during the process, she simply enters their email address and a transaction receipt is automatically sent to their email address.
My partner does her bookkeeping once a week (she could do it daily but she couldn’t be bothered), so at the end of each week she checks to see what money has been deposited into her bank account from square and then records that as income into the easyas software.
Thats basically it in a nutshell. Everything else is as normal, entering of he expenses or income received from other means (such as cash) is entered as normal. The square service handles all the transactions, she can print out reports from square to keep for income tax purposes, but essentially once she enters the amounts into the easyas software she uses the easyas software as normal and the square system has nothing more to do with how she runs her business.
